I hope my review of Samsung galaxy ace will be helpful for many people. I bough this phone from ebay india and got the delivery very fast in Pune from Udaipur vendor. (He took only 2 days to ship the mobile and 1 day by the Blue Dart courier).
I went through lot of web sites before finalizing this phone. It's a new budget phone from Samsung. I took this phone after comparing it with Motorola DEFY, LG Optimus One (waited for LG Chic for almost 3+ months) and compared it with HTC wildfire. Please remember this is not a highend phone and do not expect a premium features/hardware from this phones. I had a decent budget cap of indian Rs 15-16K (max $350 USD) and inside that budget cap I was looking for maximum features/facilities.
Phone came with headphones, battery, additional white color plastic back, a charger and USB cable to connect it to computer, 2 GB MicroSD card, leather pouch and manual CD's. I was wondering if I need to take a backup of my contacts from SIM, but after inserting my SIM android software quickly integrated everything. I installed facebook, twitter app and android identified correct people there numbers, facebook details and twitter details under one name!
On most of the web sites incorrect information has been reported about memory. This phone has 278 MB of RAM and 181 MB of storage. Phones graphics quality is very neat, clean and crysp. The touch response is very smooth and fast as well. You don't need to hard press to generate the required touch. Phone auto rotates the screen if you hold it horizontally. Phone really surprised me at first when the entire battery drained out in just 6 hrs. However googleing on how to improve the battery life of android phones and I found good links improve the same. I turned off the other GSM network search and only limited it to 2G. I have Idea sim card. I also installed a widget to enable/disable wifi, gprs, sync features in one tap. Reduced the brightness of the screen and in last 6 hrs I have only lost one battery bar! So I can assume it worked well.
I installed following apps: (Updated on 6 March 2011)

all the mentioned apps are free. I also noticed that I can edit doc, xls, ppt files in ThinkFree office suite that came pre installed with the phone. Phone supports multi touch, phone supports youtube but not the flash that is embedded into websites. Headphone are optimized for better voice quality during call so they dont give great quality sound when you are listining songs, however when I plugged in my creative earphones sound quality was amazing.
Samsung also has provided a software that converted various video formats into mp4 that can be easily played on mobile.
Over all I'm very happy with this phone, considering the budget cap I had.

Update: 11-April-2011
Just upgraded my phone with the latest firmware. My earlier attempt failed when I did it from home. (Rather I should say I canceled it cause it was taking too much time and for my 64KB connection it was too much. so I did my firmware upgrade from office internet which is 12MB/s connection just took 15 min for entire process. )
First I updated my kies (Also imp I did the upgrade from my admin account as normal user failed to fetch and upgrade firmware) Connected the phone via USB and allowed kies to do the firmware upgrade. Attaching the couple of screenshots for everyone reference. At the moment I've no clue as to what new changes/fixes have been updated but I'll update my blog once I've noticed it.
Unfortunately I forgot to note down my earlier firmware version number, however the new firmware version is now PDA:KC1 / PHONE:KC1 / CSC:KC1 (INU)

Improving Battery life:
Since everyone is concern about battery life let me update the blog for the same.
To improve battery do following
1. Always charge 100% and discharge fully all the way upto 10% - if you are not sure how much battery is left use some decent battery monitoring tool like "Smart Battery Monitor" Do not rely on default battery indicator as it does not give exact value
2. Turn off GPS and wifi when you are not using it, to do so click on option button when at home screen then notification and quickly disable the wifi and gps
3. Turn off network discovery like 3G if you are using 2G network. To do so click on option button at home screen then click on settings then "Wireless and networks" then "Mobile networks" then check the "Use only 2G networks"
4. Reduce the screen brightness to do so click on option button at home screen then click on settings then "Display" then "Brightness", set it to minimum as per your comfort.
5. Reduce running too many widgets on home screens they run in background all the time and can drain your battery
6. If you are using Facebook, Twitter, Skype or various email services, increase the time delay between the syncs like once in a day or twice in a day. Or in some cases do not run the auto sync instead rely on manual syncing.
7. Hold the center button for 3-4 seconds and start the task manager and close the running app if it is not in use ( ex: browser/radio/music player) tend to remain running even when you have stopped using it.

It'll be good practice to always carry the USB cable with you that came with the box, you can charge your mobile by simply connecting it to music system in you car if your music system has USB port! Also you can charge your mobile via computer/laptop by connecting the same cable.
I guess this should drastically improve the battery life. My battery is now lasting for more than day inspite of moderate use of browser, email and phone calls. Remember one thing android phones tend to drain battery bit quicker but its our fault as well, as we tend to use it more or less like a computer!

Screenshot:
To take screenshot of your phone simply hold on back button and then click middle button, your screenshots will be stored into SD card under folder called screencapture
You always need not have to goto Market from your android phone, if your phone has wifi, 3G or GPRS connection on then simply goto http://market.android.com from your computer and make sure you are logged in with your gmail account. Select/Search application and click on install. App will get installed on your android phone!
Here is a cool apps that I found:
If you have always on internet connection and have a large music collection that you would like to access from your android phone simply goto your PC and signup to audiogalaxy.com and install the audiogalaxy app from market to your android phone. Now access your entire music collection from your android phone over wifi, 3G or GPRS.

Update 2-Sep-2011: Gingerbread
Finally Gingerbread upgrade is available via Kies in India. I just upgraded my phones firmware to Gingerbread via Kies from Froyo. Not a major noticeable change. Found a new default wallpaper, new ringtones. More input method. Samsung EMail and IM is now not available via Samsung apps. However default Email program in ACE can now be configured for Microsoft Exchange/BPOS, Calendar.
NOTE: If you have taken 2G (GPRS) plan and not 3G then you should now select GSM in mobile networks, if you have taken 3G then select WCDMA. Those who have taken both can select Auto mode so that as per area and network mobile will switch between 2G and 3G.
Lot of people asked me that their upgrades have failed in past with low disk space error. Just stumble on a link that clearly says that in order to perform upgrade you must have 3 GB disk space on computer.
Also found one puzzling thing:
Kernel Version: 2.6.35.7-pref-CL518855
root@DELL142#1
Build number:
GINGERBREAD.DDKQ5
Don't know why it says DELL142!!!!
Here are detail steps available on this blog that you can refer to upgrade your phone from Froyo to Gingerbread. Click here to goto the detail steps.

Update: 16-Dec-2011: I flashed custom ROM on my ACE a month ago but I was pretty busy to even update my blog. Here are some screenshots.
Custom ROM's: FirstUA
Please find below images of my newly flashed CustomROM (FirstUA) on Samsung Galaxy Ace. Lot of people asked me if internal storage can be expanded. I've rooted my Galaxy ACE and have flashed custom rom on it. Also I have truly moved all apps, data on SDCard by formatting a small 2 GB ext4 partition on my SDCard.

«Oldest ‹Older 1 – 200 of 621 Newer› Newest»nice review mitra,details chan dilya aahet punekar !!! :-)
please do let me know about its battery life after 1-2 weeks of use.that'll be realy helpfull for me.
i had samsung galaxy-s i changed it for N8...coz of its terrible battery life and its fingerprint magnetic plasticy body.just hate it !!!
and what remidies u have mentioned for longer battery life,i have tried almost everything on my SGS since decreasing SAMOLED screen to ATKs(advance task killer)but i went unimpressed.this is what i hate about androids the most !!!i am not a new bee to android world, had moto milestone and dell streak b4 moving to THE "SGS".
so one thing is for sure, that androids have been dispointing regarding their battery life.but now since it has been cut down on processor power m qite curious to know about its battery life.
just want to make sure atlist this midranged android will be able to survive atlist 2 days on a single charge or not...do let me know.thanx, cheers :-)
Hi Tushar,
I am Noble Jose, from bangalore. Thank you for the review.
I am also looking to purchase the ACE. but the deal that you have got is already over. Now its 14.9K.
How is your batterylife now? I am looking to a good device that is durable too. few days back the new Samsung Galaxy S LCD I9003 launched in india for 19.5K;
http://www.flipkart.com/samsung-galaxy-s-lcd-i9003-mobile-mobcvwavyvzuyh5c
should i go for that?? How you compare these two models. I think the better processor, overall spc. + better screen will be a good future proof - i mean I can use it for another 3yrs :)? without much need to upgrade.
My usage-email-some web, some simple games, music, video and few apps are my priority. no hard core gaming.
@noblejose: Samsung Galaxy S I9003 is definitely a better phone than Ace. In every department I9003 will beat Ace. Ex: Better resolution, Bigger screen, Faster processor, faster GPU, Front facing camera, Newer bluetooth version, More internal storage, more RAM, better battery. If you can afford 20K just go for I9003. Since you have budget of 19-20K do compare it against Motorola DEFY as well, which is priced at 18K on flipkart and in stores.
@abeeshek: Yes I'll get back to you after a week. The biggest problem with this phone against my earlier phone is. I never used my earlier phone other than calling and doing SMS. This phone I'm using like a laptop which I assume results in battery drain out.
hey tushar, thanx i'll be looking forwrd for ur reply about the battery life. :-)
the point u have made about Galaxy S I9003...i agree to it at certn extend but not fully.i think,if u are paying around 18 to 20k for a smartphone then,u atlist deserve 5mp to 8mp cam with "flash"(atlist LED if not xenon).which isnt there in Galaxy S I9003.
[**in same price range of 18-20k of Galaxy S I9003...motorola defy has 5mp snaper with led flash**]
my second point would be the hardware.Galaxy S I9003 shares the same plastic fingerprint magnetic body(back panel to be preciced) of samsung galaxy s-I...which annoys u after some time and ur premium smart phone start to look like cheap roughly used second hand phone..within use of just one or two months.(trust me on this mate, seriously !!!)
where as in ace,
u r getting good quality 5mp cam with led flash !!! and ace shares the same back panel which samsung have used for their upcoming android monster "samsung galaxy S-II" !!!
ace has textured back panel which looks good as well as it enhances the grip.hence, ergonomocal experince becomes very pleasing.
my point is dont compare ace with Galaxy S I9003.both belong to diffrnt categories.i think ace is best available midranged smartphone.
where as Galaxy S I9003 can be held under the budget of starter high end smart phones...it can be compared with moto defy as i have mentioned.
@jose,if u dont mind two points(hardware and cam) i have mentioned above and 5k diffrnce doesnt matter that much to u then defin8ly go for Galaxy S I9003 :-)
just my opinion guys...no hard feelings...cheers...tc. :-)
Hey i'm plannin to buy samsung galaxy ace.. I actually wanted to buy a black color one.. The back side of dis phone is comin in two ways one is glossy n another dotted textred.. I wanted dotted back side one.. How can i recognise whether itz dotted or glossy?? Plz help me out.. Thank u :)
Hi,
the ace packed with the Black color textured back PLUS an additional glossy white back panel. - as per my understanding, pls confirm guys.
Tushar, How is the battery and experience now. Is the lack of flash 10.1 support is a problem? and how about playing video files.
I am getting a good quote here in Bangalore - around 14.4K
@abeeshek: I cannot disagree to you :) I have not studied the Galaxy S I9003. My knowledge on that phone is limited and I accept your all points and like I suggested for people with 18K-19K budget Motorola DEFY is a good option. Indeed I was planning to buy DEFY, in a hope that prices will come down but ran out of patience and to my luck Samsung launched ACE pretty quickly. I was planning to go for Android phone since Oct 2010. However due to lack of good budget phone I was holding my purchase. During my initial research I had zeroed down on LG Optimus Chic, which never came to India.
@Anonymous: I dont know from where you came with that info of glossy back? On all sites it has shown and said that it only comes with dotted black. Also you get free additional white coloured back in the box. Dotted back gives a very firm grip on phone and feels quite nice indeed.
@noblejose: Battery life is improving day by day! On day one most of the time I was exploring the phone or demoing it to someone. Now that I'm done with majority app installation work. Yesterday I unplugged my mobile at 6 in the morning and the battery lasted till 8PM with moderate use of wifi, browser and listened to 5-6 mp3 songs on headphones. I made mistake at 7 PM when battery was 47% used, I installed a AntiVirus... man it sucked all the battery within hour and at 8PM i had only 17% battery when I started the charging again. I removed AntiVirus immediately after that. I'll post my more observation on battery again in a day or two.
So far I have not come across any blocker due to lack of browsers non capability of playing flash. Majority of the sites that has youtube flash can be played easily. Video Performance on this phone is excellent.
@tushar,
u dont need the anti virus...android aint prone to virus atack like symbian or s40 !!! there might be few anti virus available in android market but just for the sake of safty u can have it if u want to...
but i would suggest rather feeling up ur memory space with unwanted apps like anti virus save that space and use it for ATKs...ATKs are must have on any android device and dont forget to use them whenever u unlock ur phone.every time !!!
coz android is such kinda os which always opens the undesired apps without even notifying us in the background...so u have to keep checking it every time u use the device...
and keep clearing the level one and level two ram every time u use ur device which u'll find in ur inbuilt task manager...it helps to kill all the unwanted apps running in the background hence ur ram uses the most of memory to run ur device smoothly...
most of the people are unaware of these two importnt things i've mentioned above and then they cry out loud regarding their "laggy" android device :-)
hope this was helpfull,cheers :-)
and one more thing,are u using 3G???
@jose and anonymous,
the glossy back panel which u guys are talking about was made for "proto type" devices.(demonstration level devices which u must have seen on you tube)
which no longer exist in the present stock of ace !!!
so u get only textured back panels one white and one black with the standard sealed box offered by samsung...always hear the preview correctly, most of the time reviewer adresses the device as "proto type" device while shooting the video 'b4 the phone realese'.
so dont worry about that,k
u will get "textured back panel" only...the guessing game wont be reqired !!! :-) cheers...
Hi Tushar,
thanks for the updates. Hope you are enjoying with the Ace.
I have one more doubt; you have said that "Majority of the sites that has youtube flash can be played easily" as per my understanding there is a dedicated youtube app to play video from you tube. But if someone embedded a youtube video in their site, will it play from the website or do you need to open it in the youtube app.
And how is the map/gps/agps function.
thanks a lot for your time and helping out to get a better idea of ACE.
@noblejose: youtube videos are played using youtube app. I still have not used gps. At static place I checked it and looks fine and I don't expect it to perform as accurate as we use them in US.
Galaxy ACE or galaxy GIO... ?? Which one is better.. Spec is almost the same.. Ace has got 3.5 screen.. 5mp wit led flash.. Wer as gio has got 3.2 screen , 3mp witout flash.. Renamin all the features r same.. But the price diff is approx 3500rs difference.. So i'm thinkin whether to wait for gio or buy ace.. Plz suggest me.. Coz to afford 15000rs would be a bit diff for me... If the features r too gud in ace compared to gio.. I'l definitely go for ace.. Plz help me friends....
Can you plz tel me wat all dey wil be provided in the box of samsung galaxy ACE...?? Wil dey provide pouch for it?? Thank u in advance :-)
hey maddy,
u r absolutly ri8...gio and ace aint that diffrnt from each other accept their cam and screen size...and about the 3500 rs. price diffrnce is due to the ace's 5mp 'led flash cam' and defin8ly the 'looks' !!! if these two mentioned price increasing factors doesnt matter to u much...then gio would be a good option for u.
rest of the specs are identically similar...so if u cant manage 15,000 then go for gio...would be a gr8 substitute for ace...
if u dont wana wait till gio comes out then, in similar price range galaxy mini and galaxy551 with slide out qwerty are there too...with almost identical specs as gio.
hope that helps,cheers :-)
@Karthik: Yes! Lather pouch is also provided by Samsung in the box.
@tushar,
hey have u tried installing any theme launchers such as ADW or panda??? m wondring if they'll work on ace...
@abeeshek: Unfortunately I have not tried ADW or Panda themes. Btw I also found a browser that has built in flash plugin, called skyfire.
http://www.androidtapp.com/skyfire-browser-outperforms-flash-10-1-for-android-plus-tips-over-half-a-million-users/
hey thats a gr8 news yaar...
how about UC or dolphin browser???have u tried it??? native browsercha perfomnce kasa aahe???
i have almost made up my mind for ace as my secondry device!!!(for 3G use only...surfing xperince on N8..pathetic thats why !!!)
tu use kartois 3G??? coz with 3G...battery will get drained super fast...so bit worried about it :-( what do u rekon???
Does this phone (Galaxy Ace) have T9 dictionary for typing messages...?? I mean number type key pad for typing messages..?? Thanks in advance....
This phone does't have flash.. What exactly is 'flash' ??? N what are the disadvantages of a phone not having 'flash' ??? If the flash is not there can't we watch any videos in youtube ???
@ abeeshek n tushar..
Guys i hope u have got a good knowledge bout smartphones.. I'm new to smartphones currently i'm using sony ericsson k790i.. Plannin to buy galaxy ace.. So can u plz tel me in detail bout the flash...
Thanks a lot :)
@Chethan: This phone has better functionality than T9 dictionary. Also it supports swype i.e you can type very fast without lifting your finger! and phone understands quickly what word you are typing!
Watch this video to know how swype works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYIaULovG_Y
@sam: This phone has youtube application using which this phone plays any youtube (flash) videos however if you have flash based widget on website your browser wont play it on this phone. Ex: on my blog on the right hand side there is last.fm flash widget that show which songs I'm listening to... it will not be played if i visit my blog page from my phone browser. I hope this helps.
Does this phone have security lock for selected folders or like for gallery , messages ???
hey tushar,
hows it goin???
hows the battery life now??? u must have got proper idea uptill now,dnt u???
@abeeshek: Yes Now it lasts for entire day. However I do have to charge it daily in the morning. My Internet usage over wifi is very high. Considering my usage this is a decent battery life. If I don't use Internet I'm sure it will last for 2 days.
hello
can u please tell me if it can play xvid videos with any video player like rockplayer or others?like the 700mb rips?
@kshitiz: Yes!!! I can play xvid, divx, rm, avi, mp4 files on this mobile. I used SeamanPlayer to play all these formats.
@chetan and all [who has not bought the phone yet] :
The user-manual is aviable at:
http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/201102/20110201135245616/GT-S5830_UM_EU_Eng_Rev.1.2_110201.pdf
@sagara: Congratulations to you for your new Samsung Galaxy ACE phone! I hope you will like it.
I use internet in comp using mobile as modem.. So i just wanted to clarify whether Galaxy Ace is having Class 10 slot Edge or Class 32 and whats the speed of Edge in Galaxy Ace ??? Plz answer anyone..
It occurs to me that Samsung must pay you for advertising their phone so well !
And i agree that this phone is superb.. congrats for such a great find.
@Sheetal: Thanks for the comment.
hi tushar, you blog has been very helpful to me. i am also planning to buy this phone. however i would like to know how gprs works in this phone. and can we connect to internet in a laptop using mobile internet via bluetooth connection?
thanks in advance for your reply.
@Kiranmoy Barman: Hi, I enabled the "Use packet data" [Enable data access over mobile network] and Clicked on Use mobile as Wireless AP. Connected my laptop and Bingo!!! ... I can access internet anywhere on my laptop where mobile network is present. I didnot check if I can connect my laptop over bluetooth but WiFi is faster than bluetooth anyway so connecting using WiFi makes sense over bluetooth.
Does this phone have Groilla Glass display..
http://www.corninggorillaglass...red-products
check the above website in that they have given Ace have Gorilla Glass display.. But in the official samsung site they have not mentioned about this.. So plz confirm whether its having or not... Thanks..
@Madhu: It's not a Gorilla Glass, do not trust the claims of other web sites other than the samsung itself.
Hey, great post about Galaxy Ace.
I really like that phone.
Have one question for you.
Does it play movies/videos smoothly?
I would like to use it as a video player. If I upload a quality video in 320x480 format would it play it smoothly?
I read somewhere that there is a problem with video playback (choppy, low-quality) - is this true? 10x! :)
@HotShot: I can play video well, however if you are planning to use it as a video player then this is not the phone for you. The battery will drainout quickly if you play long videos or too many videos. In some video formats I have seen that video halts for second or so... but overall video quality is very good. Standard video formats are played very well without any flicking or any halts. (avi,mp4)
Hello,
I am planning to buy a good smartphone with almost every feature and so keeping an eye on all the reviews and lots of sites since last one month.
I finally narrowed down my search to ACE. But still I am in doubts over few things like:
1. Internal memory: Where have u installed all the above listed apps? whether internal or external? Does it ask for selecting memory before installing? Is there any drawback of installing apps on external memory?
2. Do I require a Internet all the time for running apps which i have installed in my phone?
3. GPS service is available on this phone? or some other app is required for this? Internet is also required for this?
Thanks in advance!!
@Siddharth:
Answers to your queries:
1. Apps do not give choice on installing destination. Apps that are designed for Froyo onwards usually get installed on SD card. Ofcourse there is a app called move2sd which can move some apps from your device storage to SD card. I have not come across any drawback of installing apps on SD.
2. You dont need internet to run the apps on your device. However if apps like cricketscore, chat are pointless without internet connection. Where are as apps like solitare, freecell games can run without internet connection.
3. GPS is available and it uses google app for the same which comes per-installed. There are some apps in market which can even work like navigator without Internet connection by downloading maps while you have Internet connection.
4. I'm using Idea's 2GB plan for Rs 98/- per month and so far I have found it sufficient. It has daily limit of 75 MB and I am monitoring my usage using 3GWatchdoc program.
viThnxx for ur reply Tushar.
Plz reply me on this also :
1. The apps you listed in ur blog , have u installed them on ur internal memory? after installing how much memory was left?
2. Lots of people and even one of my friend have reported that this phone lags, hangs, restarts. Even after removing battery and killing apps doesn't improve the situation. Have you experienced anything like this? Is this a case for particularly some defected models or in general with ACE? What could be the possible reason? how to escape from this?
@Siddharth: I have not experience the lagging issue nor freezing issues and also people who have purchased this phone have not reported it to me. However important thing is since this phone has limited memory phone can lag if you open apps one after other. This will give little time for os to free the memory. The practice is to clear the memory after demoing 3-4 apps so that next apps will get breathing space else OS will take some time to free it.
Has your friend installed too many apps that constantly run in background? This could lead to problem. Also has he installed any apps from unknown source? I have installed all the apps from android market and I've been very picky in selecting apps. I always read the user comments and then decide which apps i want to install. Like i said I do not have control on where to install apps and after installing the listed apps following is the status of my memory 189 mb used out of 278 (running apps with os) and 79.89 MB used out of 181 MB storage memory. Eventually almost all apps will be installed on SD as that is the defined path for android and Last for your friend if things are becoming to difficult for him, he should backup his settings and data from phone and should restore it to factory with memory card formating. This will give him clean fresh factory state mobile again in just 10 min!
Also remember this is a VFM mobile in 14K you are getting very good package. If you are not happy with this phone the next phone I'll recommend is Motorola DEFY for 18K or Samsung Galaxy i9003 for 19K.
A great thanks to u. Now I am getting things , I need to use my phone very wisely by installing apps that I need only and using 1-2 at a time and clearing memory(by killing apps) after the use? Am I correct?
Thanks for ur valuable comments. I will again come back to u , if I will face any problem.
Hi Tusahar! hope you are doing well with the ace.
By the way I have purchased I9003 - phone really ROCK!!
Got it from Letsbuy.com for 18.4K (with ICICI coupon) - the best deal as of now.
I have got he Black-Brown version; with the chrome brown finish and dotted matt on the back. Only problem that I felt is battery life; but after doing a calibration (full charge - discharge 3 times; no charging in between) I am getting around 30-40hrs. which is great.
I have tested more than 30 apps. and the phone is great, getting used to it as its my first(!) android.
Its quite some time after your first review; you could have come across few more cool apps? please share..
Which is the best offline map in india?
and Which is the best data plan?? I am not looking for 3G as of now.
I am on Vodafone, its bit costly than tata docomo n all; but TATA has very poor coverage.
hey tushar, can u plz tell me some free android apps through which we can watch live tv on our galaxy ace?
n also thanks for all d info u have given. d phone works great
@noblejose: Congratulations on your new phone. I'll update my blog with new apps soon. I've recently also tested factory reset option and I'll update my blog for that as well.
Hey,
I just came across a great deal on data; vodafone GPRS/EDGE.
Rs. 127/- for 6GB!, 30days validity.
Rs. 95/- for 4GB, 30 days.
Getting good speed in Bangalore; i am able to get live stream radio with out any refresh delay!
I have also tried to downloading/ installing apps from market which also works fine. Good deal! thanks Vodafone.
Samsung Kies: which version you guys are using?? I got some 1.4 or so which I have upgraded to Kies 2; but it doesn't recognize my device?? any idea?
And Apps.... share your fav. apps list.
@noblejoes: I'm using kies 2.0 on Windows 7 and it does detect my ACE very well. I've taken backup, edited contacts directly via Kies and today I received a notification from Kies that new firmware for phone is available and it can do the upgrade of the same if I wish to! I've updated app list.
Dear Tushar
Please suggest, samsung Ace internal memory of 158mb v/s HTC Wildfire 512mb, does this low memory affect performance during browsing, etc...
Where exactly this will affect, please inform
Mahesh
@Mahesh: lower memory of ACE do not affect any browsing performance. However here is the only app that I came across that cannot be installed on ACE due to the low memory is Firefox for android which required vooping 512 MB of RAM! Honestly I'd have never used and installed Firefox if it demands 512 RAM. I'm more than happy in Opera which requires only 9MB!
As far as memory comparison if you do lot of multi tasking with many apps open at the same time then the performance of running apps can be affected due to low memory on ACE. I tend to use only 3-4 apps at the same time not more than that. However on memory segment I'm sure Wildfire has edge over ACE. However you cannot run many games on Wildfire due to low CPU and GPU processor. Do check the video demo I'm mentioned in my post.
@Mohit: To watch many live TV channels on your Samsung ACE open the android browser and point it to http://tv.zengatv.com there are many channels shown in the list select the TV channel you want to watch that's it! Just make sure you are connected to good wifi router or you have 3G connection. The time difference between TV on mobile and TV on Set top box is of around 3-4 seconds...Yah on mobile its faster by 3-4 sec than STB! :)
Hi Tushar, nice review, good to see you're doing something for the community. Btw I'm from Pune too :)
Wanted your thoughts on Galaxy Ace vs LG Optimus? I like the looks of Ace but a lot of people on forums say Optimus is better specially with its 512 MB RAM, while the lower price will score a couple of points, Optimus is upgradable to Android 2.3 Gingerbread too, your thoughts?
-Rohit
@Rohit: It's kind of personal choice as what is your priority vs your budget. From my point of view Optimus does not come closer to ACE. I personally never liked Optimus One and I was waiting for LG Optimus Chic to arrive in India which never arrived. Here are the +ve and -ve of ACE vs LG Optimus
ACE has following additional things than Optimus:
1. Multi-touch input method
2. Touch-sensitive controls
3. Swype text input method
4. Wi-Fi 802.11 n and DLNA
5. 5 MP, 2592x1944 pixels, autofocus, LED flash
6. 800 MHz ARM 11 processor
7. Stereo FM radio with RDS
8. MS word, excel, Powerpoint Document editor
I have personally seen the LG Optimus P500 and I didnot like the quality of the screen and over all feel it felt bit cheap as compared to ACE but it could be personal opinion.
Hey tushar i'm planning to buy this phone. I just wanted to know one thing before buying.
Does Ace have 'numerical keypad' for texting messages (T9) ??? I know it has sywpe but wanted to know it has numerical keypad or not..
Plz ans my question..
@Anonymous: Yes it has T9 keyboard as well... just open a write message window and press and hold your finger for more than 2 sec a keyboard option (Input method) will popup and you can swap between Samsung keyboard and swype. In T9 there are lot of options like word predict, spelling suggestions, Firletter capital and all...
Thanks Tushar !. .. me pan Samsung Ace ghyacha vichar karat aahe ? is it a good buy at 14k or so? please confirm.
Milind
Hi Tushar,
My Samsung Galaxy Ace keeps hanging when I play games like PES2011, my phone internal memory is usually full, all the apps by default get stored on the phone memory, I've installed App 2 SD, but it says no movable apps found, I guess its not possible unless I root my phone, would you recommend I root my phone? Is there any other solution?
- Rohit from Pune
@Tushar i bought a samsung galaxy i9003. when i tried installing kies on winxpsp3, it threw an error: provide value on system.windows.Baml2006.TypeConverterMarkupExtension threw an exception. i had downloaded latest version of kies from samsung website . i had updated java,Netframework and windows media player. but all in vain . please help me as i want to upgrade my galaxy s lcd. thanks n regards. Raj
@Milind: For 14k this is a good phone. However like i have suggested to one guy in comment section buy this phone only if it fits your requirement. That guy wanted to play games and watch videos and this phone may not suite for that purpose. For gaming and watching movies I'll recommend a phone with 1 GHz or x2 processor with good GPU and heavy battery. For day-to-day purpose this is a excellent phone.
Hi Tushar,
Nice review.
Earlier I was planning to buy a Nokia phone but after lots of R&D i found that it's useless to buy one as symbian is dying and currently Nokia phones are not at all in competition with current OS or hardware.
So I chose to go for a Samsung android phone but there is always the quality issue with Samsung about its physical built but lately I came to know that they have improved a lot in their phones built. As you are using a Samsung phone is it true?
Second before buying can you just give me some clarity on Ace not having flash player as I found most sites use flash and if flash is not there then I may not be able to view those sites while using net on my Ace. In one of the comments I found that their is a Dolphin browser which allows you to view sites even if you don't have flash support.
Please suggest me ways to improve battery life of Ace. Is battery calibration helpful with Ace.
@dangerous: Thanks for the compliment. You have taken wise decision by not buying Nokia phone. I was carrying similar impression about Samsung few months back, however galaxy series changed my opinion. So far my Ace is working very well and I'm very happy to use it. As far as not having flash player support has not blocked me at all. Just for information, world most popular phone - iPhone also do not have flash plugin and non of the iPhone user complains about it! Flash is known to drain battery and flash is paradies of hackers. With new web standards HTML5 seems to be next happening thing which is supported by Firefox4, Chrome, IE9 and Opera all leading browsers. So you can imagine flash days are numbered (may be year or two - dont take it literaly)
As far as battery life improvments for android phones. I'll suggest select only 2G network if you are not using 3G, always charge and discharge battery fully. Avoid installing too many service oriented apps so that they wont run in background all the time and drainout the battery. Also monitor the cpu cycles on phone.
As far as phone selection is concerened I'll suggest buy a phone that suites your need and budget.
I hope this will clear your doubts and will help you in buying right phone.
I just remembered about one more thing.
When listening to music via 3.5 headphones do you hear background hissing/buzzing noise?
It is most noticeable on quiet songs or during silence between tracks.
On some old S60 Nokia devices I had this problem and it's really annoying to hear buzzing on quiet songs.
I plan to use it a lot for music.
10x again - great post!!!
Wow Nice review. Proud owner of the same model from March 2011. Excellent mobile.Good list of apps i had most of them grabbed a couple of them which i dont have .
You can also get NDTV,IBN , ICICI mobile banking, photoshop from adobe, avg antivirus, winamp , then kids paint . [ Even my daughter likes Talking tom..good one] . The other i have one for checking the pulse rate if you keep your finger on the camera lens- awesome one. Currently connected my to USB so not getting the app name...but award winning app. You have amazon app store where you will get daily an app free. For Tamil language users you can get ponniyin selvan,Thirukural , Athichudi etc as well from the market free.
Thanks for the info Tushar.
I want to know about the audio quality of Ace while using earphones.
I have heard that it's music quality is not so nice when u use earphones while listening to songs. If that is the case I'm planning to buy Sony earphones as It's sound is amazing. Will that work if I use it in Ace improving the sound quality of it?
@Hotshotbg: No there is no hissing or buzzing sound in background. However if you plan to use it as mp3 player I wont recommend this phone. As battery will drain out quite quickly and the headphone quality of this phone is not so great. I guess SONY android phones have better sound quality.
@Prem: Thanks a lot :)
@dangerous: Yes Sony, Creative or Bose headphones can improve the sound quality dramatically. I'm using Creative headphone and they work wonderful. Before buying any headphone I'll recommend to test it with your phone.
Hi all those who are going for ACE...
Please check out Galaxy SL (I9003) which is much better phone if you can stretch a bit more. I think the ACE best bargain price is around 15K, but the I9003 is around 18.5K; just Rs. 3500/- more. but you will be getting 4gb internal, 4" BIG bright screen, 1GHz CPU, better graphics chip, HD video recording, ... etc. but will miss LED flash for camera. but the quality of camera is good enough. Audio - the quality of phone's built in speaker is poor! but through headphones its awesome!! again you will not get great quality with the headphones that provided with phone. I have used creative headphones.. great quality audio.. par/ better than ipod!. you will have virtual 5.1 surround option while connecting to headphones.
I have done big amount of research before settle for the I9003. I was about to buy ACE. go for it guys.
by the way thanks a lot Tushar for such a nice blog, it was hard to find much reviews when I was doing research on this phones. I thought I will write a detailed review after buying my phone for all the folks... but as you all know.. you will be buzzzy on so many things.. appreciate your efforts and thank you.
Hey Tushar,
I m unable to view any channel. When i tried to open the stream with Real Player, m getting an error "Cannot connect to server" . M using 3G network. Is it some issue with the phone or the network?
I think at present Tata Docomo has the best data plans. Also the speed is very good.
I actuallt decided to take samsung ACE after reading your review
Now I am also proud owner of Samsung Galaxy ACE S5830 :), its really a good phone with easy to use features.
@Ashish: Welcome to Galaxy ACE users club! I'm glad that my post is helping so many people.
@Mohit: I've not installed real player cause I don't like real player... :( However I'm able to watch many Live TV's without any issue. In your case most likely it's a network issue. Try connecting with wifi and check again.
Hi Tushar,
Finally after long wait and thought I purchased Ace yesterday.
The phone is nice and I'm still checking battery's performance.
Can you suggest me media player through which I can play files with good quality videos, coz I played some videos from youtube but the quality was not good and it took a lot of time in playing?
As i was trying to feed my all contacts from my earlier phone through bluetooth it copied all my contacts but don knw where it got stored and after that i checked my Ace contacts it was showing only my facebook sync contacts. How to locate it?
I am not able to upgrade the firmware.
Model Name: GT-S5830
Current Version : PDA:KA7 / PHONE:KA7 / CSC:KA7
This device's version cannot be updated. :(
Which is better 'samsung galaxy ace' or 'htc wildfire s'....?
@ankur: It's a personal choice... by looks (Wildfire & ACE) both phones look great. You need to make a choice between 600 MHz vs 800 MHz and 512 Mb Ram vs 278 Mb Ram. Wildfire with Document viewer or Ace with document editor... Not sure about wildfire has multitouch input but ace comes with multi touch input.
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3777&idPhone2=3724
Thanks for your prompt reply.
M using 3G network so it works well. I tried watching some live tv channels via android applications and was able to do so. So i dont think its a network problem.
Neways are u aware of some other website that provides the link to see live tv? If so, then please let me know.
Hello
hii tushar i just wanted to ask you that have u updated your mobile with gingerbread 2.3 ?
coz me also thinking to update to 2.3 but im unable to coz some error is getting ocur
@Anonymous: No I haven't tried Gingerbread on ACE. Also I do not plan to upgrade untill Samsung pushes it via Kies. At the moment I do not see any need of upgrading from Froyo to Gingerbread. I'm pretty happy with Froyo!
Hii tushar
im in a trouble
i have flashed my mobile to 2.3.3
but i forgot to make a back up of my older version rom
can you plz upload it ?
plz dude
and plz send a link of my room to my email ID : lakshesh.rallapalli@yahoo.com
hello tushar plz help me
just give me your current version rom
if u want tutorial then plz refer this
http://www.androidpolice.com/2010/04/16/complete-guide-how-to-fully-back-up-and-restore-your-android-phone-using-nandroid-backup-and-clockworkmod-rom-manager/
plz dude i need your help coz many things are not working in gingerbread like GPRS-bluetooth[sometimes stops while transfer]GPRS not detected and also swkype not there
i have tried to flash with ASIAN version but i get chinese one and when i connect mobile to kies it says mobile cannot be updated so i need the old version back [PDA:KC1 / PHONE:KC1 / CSC:KC1 (INU)]
@lakshesh: There are people who have flashed Gingerbread on ACE with russian language it then selected the english as phone language and there phones are working fine without any problem. Unfortunately I cannot give you the ROM image of my phone as I do not want to root my phone and there is lot of personal data stored on my phone. Creating image needs rooting and it creates a image along with the data on the phone.
hi tushar
very nice review and replies.
I want to know that will the price of this phone come down after one month or more. And what is its current price. Thanks in advance............!
@YS Sidhu: I don't think price will come down soon as this is a hot selling mobile in the market and there are many models samsung has introduced at lower price. I brought this mobile from ebay india after octrio for 14300/- same mobile we brought for my relative from shop in pune for 14600/- after heavy bargain.
hi tusha,
njoyin my new Ace very much.I must say Samsung has improved a lot, so much so that there are at par with Nokia now in terms of quality.
can u tell me how to play live tv on Ace?
Hai Tushar
Me Krishna from Hyderabad. At the outset let me heartily congratulate you for this kind of blog initiative taken for the community of Samsung Galaxy Ace prospective buyers. If we have blogs like this for every top-selling models, then customers cant be cheated.
Like many others i love to do lots of research before buying a phone, first i thought to buy Nokia c6-01/c3-touch n type model and again after reading bad battery problems n other errors that coming in Nokia (after reading reviews in web) i decided not to go for Nokia.
Then i narrowed down my search to Samsung phones, then looked at Ace which mainly attracted me because of its iPhone design ( i mainly gives preference to design and medium features with best price). Today my phone search stopped by luckily seeing ur link of ur blog in gsmarena website.
Actually i was having exams from 3rd May which is a professional exam. But still in my breaktime i was referring to this search from almost 1-2months. Today i sat down and visited ur blog of Galaxy Ace and studied step by step reviews of each and every one and then finally decided to go only for ACE after exams.
Really I am so happy that you are helping through a blog for this much-selling mobile in clarifying every one's doubt with so much patience and spending time and also updating your applications n other key features. With your blog, i can say confidently , on this whole web, your blog is one-stop-solution for those who wants to buy Galaxy Ace phone. This site is a comprehensive blog, which no other web in the internet provides more than your blog.
Please sharing more details of your and please keep answering many of prospective buyers doubts in the same way as u r doing now..
The job u doing is highly commendable benefitting really a lot of people and their valuable money.
I need only one clarification. Can we change the themes/wallpapers in dis mobile? Can we set mp3/other format songs as ringtones for particular contacts? Can we add a person photo to a particular contact, so that when that person calls, we can see his photo..?
Kindly clarify above things. I eagerly waiting for your reply. I wanted to popularise your blog to all my friends.
Thanks a ton for your true and heartful efforts in clarifying our doubts.
Hi Tushar
One more thing. I got a proof that Galaxy Ace is a gorilla glass. It has been mentioned in Corning Gorilla Glass Official Website. They have given which phone are having gorilla glass. So i hope its official news even though samsung has not mentioned in its website. Here is that link,
http://www.corninggorillaglass.com/featured-products
Look into that and pls comment on it, whether we can trust it or not.
@Krishna: Thank your appreciating the blog and I'm glad that it is helping you in deciding your next mobile phone.
Here are the answers to your query: On ACE I have not yet seen a concept of theme, but you can put/change wallpapers (in wallpapers you have options like live wallpapers and static ). You can set mp3 as a ringtone and you can also set individual ringtones to each contact you have. You can add photos to each person and if you have facebook/twitter account it can fetch more details of that person from those account automatically. (like birthdate, homepage) Whenever person calls you will see his/her photo when phone is ringing. You can save contacts on (phone/sim card or in the gmail)
Yes this phone has a gorilla glass, even i noticed it recently, unfortunately it is not mentioned in manual or on samsung website)
I hope my answers clears your doubt and wish you good luck for your exams.
Thank you Tushar. I will come back to you after my exams and before buying it for any further doubts..
Hi Tushar,
My name is Kshitij.I bought Samsung Galaxy Ace yesterday. The phone is awesome, everything is good in it except the battery backup.
Can u please tell me how can I enhance the battery backup & how to shut unneccesery apps running in background ?

Please comment on battery backup of this phone. I am upset with battery performance. Join me facebook.com/sourabha4u
Hi Kshitij, Can u please tell me at what price u got the new phone and in which city..?
Hi sourabh
Tushar ji has already mentioned so many battery saving techniques and related applications above in this blog. Please go thru all n den if u still hv battery backup please let us know in this blog.
@Kshitij, @Sourabha : Since battery backup is bothering everyone I've updated my blog for the same. Please check the 3 May 2011 update for the battery improvement.
hello, thanks for the review! anyways i have one question, when i want to install applications, at some it say installation unsucesfull? do you maybe know why?
thanks, Nejc, Slovenia
@Carmelo: It could be due to various reasons but possibilities could be
1. You have disabled installation of apps from Unknown sources and you are trying to install it not from market
2. Your phones internal storage memory is full or not sufficient space if left that can accommodate the application. ( if you are installing old app that resides on internal memory)
3. If app is updated for froyo onwards it could be trying to install itself on MicroSD card which could be full or has file system issues.
4. Since you are from Europe do you have any app restrictions due to EULA?
something beyond what I guess could be also there... and I may not able to guess or answer in that case consult the Samsung support.
Thanks for your help anyways,i Already found a solution :)
i will post it here if someone else gets the same problem...
Go to your Android SETTINGS screen.
Scroll down to and click on APPLICATIONS.
Click MANAGE APPLICATIONS.
In the tab menu at the top select ALL.
Scroll down and click on DOWNLOAD MANAGER
Click the CLEAR DATA button.
Click your device's back button.
Scroll down and click on MARKET
Click the CLEAR DATA button.
Click your device's back button.
Scroll down and click on MARKET UPDATER
Click the CLEAR DATA button.
Click your device's back button.
REBOOT.
You will have to set up the market again but this should resolve any downloading of apps from it.
Have a nice day!
Nejc
Thanks Tushar
It will be great if you guide people on facebook.com/thinikdigit fan page also.
40,000 members would like to hear from you.
I want you to comment on review of this mobile by team Digit (http://www.facebook.com/thinkdigit/posts/10150180947722385)
Waiting for your reply.
Thanks once again.
Hey tushar can we listen to music via bluetooth?? I mean other than calls can we use bluetooth for listing music??
Hi tushar!
I have one quetion more. I found out that i have problem with savin applications to SD card. Some of the app installs to phone and some of them to SD card. but the problem is that app on the phone i can't move to SD. I'm almost out of phone memory, so i wont be able to install some new app any more..
Thanks for your help
Nejc
@Carmelo: Yes that's a common problem. I'll recommend you to check the people's comment before installing the app. Lot of apps that were developed earlier are not yet modified to get installed on SD Card. Avoid such apps. The apps that were developed/modified specifically for Froyo (2.2)/ Gingerbread (2.3) will by default get installed on SD Card.
Hey tushar can we listen
to music via bluetooth?? I
mean other than calls can
we use bluetooth for
listing music??
Plz reply..
@Anonymous: I will not be able to answer you right now cause my bluetooth headset is yet to arrive from ebay. Will be able to tell you after week.
Thanks for replying.. Ya sure take your time.. I'm planning to buy in couple of weeks..
Hi Tushar,
I m planning 2 buy ACE.
Recently on TV show techguru, the anchor- ankit declaired that price of ACE reduced to 12k.
Is that true.
plz. reply
thanx.
Nilesh
@Nilesh: The best price so far I have seen is 13940/- on ebay here is link for the same. http://cgi.ebay.in/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=310316129150
Not sure about the price reduction.
hi i want to buy a phone for 12-15k is galaxy ace a good choice or should go fr htc wildfire because the screen resolution of ace is quite low as i hve read many reviews plsssss help me out or is there any phone that would come out in june so that i should for it (in samsung)
Thanks
Hello Sir,
Even i am a Ace user.
I read your blog it helped me save my phone's battery.
I am also using apps like Advanced Task Killer,Juice Defender they do help in saving the battery.
I read you have interest in guitar,me too,i am using the guitar tuner app to help me tune the guitar,BTW i am not a pro in guitar,i am still learning.
Which app do you recommend me which would help me in learning guitar?
nice review, and a very useful for all galaxy users.
what is u r opinion regarding regarding the backup of the phone
thank you.
no worries tushar i got the indian version rom from the samsumg service center.
And everybody talking about the battery backup guys each and every android mobiles have bad battery backup but after using the mobile for nearly 1 week or more the battery life gets improved more than 50% (as for me) and due to the new update the battery life got 20% extra
How to get this update?
@everyone: I have stopped using any task killers and managers long ago. I'm fully dependent on default task killer just in case if I have to use. (Press center button and hold it a task manager will appear)
About backup, i guess for contacts I'm fully dependent on Google, for other I regularly take backup of photos/music files and other pdf/doc/xls files on my computer.
I'm using bare minimum widgets and my battery lasts for more than a day. I hope this helps.
@Tushar- I am again requesting you to join facebook.com/thinkdigit 40,000 people are waiting for your guidance.

Dear Tushar
Just visit http://facebook.com/thinkdigit and click on "LIKE" then you will be fan of Digit.

Thanks a lot.
Hi tushar,
On one web site, I read follwing info- abt- SAMSUNG ACE.
Display Type TFT capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors
Size 320 x 480 pixels, 3.5 inches
I want 2 know that if 320 x 480 pixels is resolution then what is 16M colors for ??
Nilesh
Bought Samasung Galaxy ace today after going through this site and reading other opinions about it. Pretty nice phone :-)
@Nilesh: in 3.5 inches 320x480 pixels will be drawn with every pixel has 16 Million color option. so more the resolution better crisp image you will find. More the color option choice more accurate and better the picture will be :)
@Ashish: Thanks! I'm glad it helped you to buy the right phone for you.
Hellow Tushar,
I planing 2 buy smartphone Either Galaxy ACe or samsung Wave II. Wave II has BADA OS Where as ACE has Android 2.2.
I want to know will all Android apps will run / Install on BADA ??
since as per my knowledge there r no variety of apps for BADA OS,compaired to Android 2.2
So which hand set should I prefer ??
Plz.advice.
Vinal Sharma
hey tushar,
masta blog aahe! helped me buy my ace...
i jus wanted to know is it ok if i use some other phones battery on my ace (u said its ok on gsm arena). Wont that heat up the phone?
and ppl , plz dont use task killers. Android itself kills the apps in the background when a heavier app is in use. the task killers jus spoil ur phone. Exit the applications using the back button and not the centre one.
thanx tushar.
@Vinal: You cannot run android apps on Bada OS. Bada OS has some thousands of apps, however I do not have data as how many are free. I'll naturally recommend any android phone over Bada!
@Rajhans: Make sure you are matching the mAh value, charging value, Voltage value, size and this should work. However I will recommend to consult the mobile expert for the same.
Hi tushar,
I was planning to buy Samsung Galaxy fit which costs around 10k.
but on techguru mobile review abt this phone I learned that Galaxy Fit has low resolution as 240 x 320 pixels and 600 MHz processor,so the phone laggs while using multiple apps.
Should I drop to buy galaxy fit and go 4 ACE instead, only 4 these resolution & processor speed issues.
Plz.comment.
kunal
hey thanx tushar.
one more thing , i cant seem to sync facebook birthdays into my calender.
i cr8 the account for sync but its not happening.
Earlier i did not know that Ace has Gorilla Glass but recently i checked it for my self i scratched the screen with a pin and key but trust me nothing happened nothing at all,i don't know why Samsung has not specified anywhere about the Gorilla Glass.
Guys this phone does have Gorilla Glass.I have removed the scratch guard and the screen now feels better and smooth.
I live in the UK and I'm considering buying this phone to last me a good few years (3+ years perhaps) and I am also on a Pay As You Go/Pay & Go where I get unlimited texts to all networks, 500MB internet and free WiFi for £15/month. Will this be enough or should I buy this phone on a contract/Pay monthly deal. And thank you very much for making this blog; it's very useful for deciding if to buy the phone and what to do afterwards.
@Kunal: If you can afford to spend more 4k then go for ACE, galaxy fit is good but it lacks the features you mentioned and other features like Multitouch (as per gsmarena), DLNA, LED flash and may not get android 2.3 ginger bread upgrade.
@Ammara: Thanks, I'm glad you like my blog.
Here are some facts... I'm not sure the pricing of this phone in UK. This phone is on Froyo(2.2) and will soon get a Gingerbread Upgrade (2.3) however if you are a tech savvy person I'm not sure if it will get updates beyond 2.3. Calculate the cost of phone against the cost of pay as you go cost for 3 years, if you buy this phone and keep it for 3 years ( since you are targeting to keep it for 3 years) find out which will be cost effective that way you will not end up paying more money to your service provider. In pay as you go, do service provider upgrade your phone if a new model comes? If it's a free of cost then continue on pay as you go plan.
@Rajhans: By default facebook birthdays/photos are shown together with the contact if you have correct name. However they will not be imported into gmail address against the respective contact. I used follow method to import all the facebook birthdays into my gmail address. I took backup of my yahoo mail address book, then removed all the yahoo address. Then I let yahoo import all my facebook contact details in it's addressbook, exported the yahoo address book again as csv file to desktop, then went to gmail contact and imported the yahoo csv file into gmail contacts, clicked on merge duplicates! done!
Now all my gmail contacts have their updated birthdays!
in order to import birthdays into calendar
1. Log into Facebook, click on “Events”
2. Click on “Export Events” and copy the URL
3. Log into Google Calendar and choose “Add” new calendar under “Other calendars.” Then choose “Add by URL”
4. Paste the URL you copied from Facebook and click “Add”
You are done wait for your phone to sync... soon you will see all birthdays updated into your calendar
Hi Tushar..
I bought this phone a month ago.. I read your blog.. it's very helpful...Thanx for sharing ur xperience... I'm pretty pleased with its every single featuer... Even Battery i can maange.. But my BIGGEST problem is that when im browsing internet,It vibtates twice , the btowser gets closed and sometimes even restarts.. :( The same thing happens while playing games also(only sometimes).. Is this a common problem or is it specific to me..? i don't see anyone complaining with this problem.. How do i get rid of this problem??? I haven't upgraded my firmware thoough.. Is it a reason for that hanging problem? What can i do.. Please suggest me a solution.. :)
Thanks
@Mahesh Kumar: The problem is not very common yet, I'm sure one or other time everyone has seen it. I don't know how to fix the current browser.
1. However I can suggest you to opt for Opera browser instead of stock browser. This should help you.
2. In case if you want to fix the issue forever I guess factory reset is the only option. (backup all our data/contacts from phone and SDCard and note down your installed app list). Also format your SDCard and this should fix it. But needs lot of effort as you will have to reinstall all the apps again and put your data again.
Hi Tushar,
Thanks for your Excellent reviews which helps the users to finalise the brand and model.
I am finalising on ACE now. Before that i would to confirm couple of queries.
1.Heard that duplicate versions are available in the market. How to be sure that i am getting an original piece?
Is it better to buy from showrooms or is it OK to buy online E.g., Ebay, flipkart etc.?
I am worried.
2.Can the front camera be used to record video only or for video call as well?
3.Is recording facility availble for FM radio?Any app for that?
4.I see that ACE doesnot support DivX and XviD video formats.
How to tackle this issue?
I am a kind of toggling between ACE and I9003.
Appreciate your early response.
Thanks in advance :)
Cheers
Ramki
@Ramki: Here are quick answers to your queries.
1. Not sure about the duplicate phones but all the people who ordered phone on ebay received a genuine hardware. Ebay do have a customer protection plan to avoid getting cheated, getting duplicate stuff. Do check with ebay customer care for more info. The only reason why i purchased online was due to two reasons. A) Phone was not available in shops when I purchased it. B) Most of the people I know received the same phone at cheaper rates than in local shops without bargaining.
2. There is no front camera to ACE
3. There is no way to record FM radio in ACE and I have not come across any app that can do the same.
4. I'm using seamanplayer to play xvid, divx and many other video file formats.
5. I9003 is a good phone too however it's costlier by 4000k+ and it does not have a flash for camera. It's a personal choice between budget vs features.
I hope I've addressed all your queries and do let us know which mobile you opted for.
Hi tushar,
I want 2 know'
what is difference bet. android 2.2 and android 2.3 ginger bread ??
and what is d procedure 2 to upgrade ??
Thanx.
Kunal
Hi all,
I had bought ACE on 26th feb'11...I was never a Samsung fan.. Hated their fones but for my first Android fone I found the specifications for the fone really excellent. I have been following Android devices from Oct'09.. Trust me this is one of the best Android Fones in terms of Value for money. Moreover, this fone has all the features which most of the fone users use everyday.. More than 2 months with this fone and i still love everything in it. About Flash 10.1, this is something if Samsung guys wud have allowed us to install wud have been grt!! One more thing that I smtimes miss is an external key for clicking pictures.
Rest I can assure u that, this is a grt fone. and in India till we start using Video calls on fones, this is going to be a legandary fone for a long time.
I use my office mail Id , Gmail Id as well as all the networking sites thru this fone and i m very very comfortable with the experiance..
Personally, I have inspired more than 20 ppl to buy this fone who had no intentions to buy a new fone or were planning for iphone 4. i have beaten N8 users on every aspect except the camera..But that doesnt make me spend 10k extra. Nokia used to be the best but with them moving on to Windows, God save them,We definitely have samsung now.
As for ppl who can spend more they can think of Galaxy S2. It is definitely gorgeous and packed with features, but on a personal note, I dont prefer to spend so much on Fone coz for me, at the end of the day for programming and othe office stuff I need a Desktop or a laptop..
As for Tushar, really loved ur review.. Very well written.
Hi Tushar,
Thanks a lot for your quick response.
I will update on my decision and experience shortly.
Best Regards,
Ramki
Hey Tushar,I am Kshitij,
I want your little help. When when I used to Switch OFF my Ace or connect it to the PC and when I again switch ON it or dissconnect it from PC,
it starts media scaning and after completing, everytime all applications get randomly distributed in Menu & it makes me very angry when I want any application to use & I didn't get it where I putted it. I always have to put all applications by the list I want.
Did you know any solution for this problem or any application that I can get to fix my application list as I fixed it last, at every time the media scanning completed ??????
I want to ask you again that is your Ace snaps the photo 1 or 2 seconds late after clicking the button than at simultaneously clicking and snaping ?????
Because I am suffering from this problem from yesterday evening when I wanted to take some photos of a baby and after I clicking the button it takes about 1 to 2 seconds to snap the photo and in that time the baby get moved and I always gets a shaked photo.
Please tell me some solutions for these problems and Is there is no anti-shaker in camera of Ace ????
Did you upgraded your Ace from 2.2 Froyo to 2.3 gingerbread ????
PLEASE REPLY..... :)
Hi!
I want to buy a 8 GB micro SDHC card for my Ace.Is there anything i should look for or check about the card before buying it,like its class or something? Will all Micro SDHC card support Ace ?
PLEASE ANSWER MY QUESTION SOON.
THANKS.
hi.. there have sale here in Philippines.. the Samsung Galaxy i9003 for only 17k from 20k original price and the samsung galaxy ace for 14k from 16k original price.. so.. what do you think sir should i just buy the galaxy i9003 instead of ace??? is the camera good enough without led flash?..
@Anonymous: From my experience I can only tell you that LED flash is very very useful when taking snaps in dark & low light areas. I've also seen that it can be used as LED light in case of emergency. I'll recommend ACE due to LED however i9003 has better RAM, bigger screen. Choice is up to you :)
@Sahib: Look for Class 4 MicroSD card, its faster than Class 2 cards. Also instead of 8 GB go for 16GB if you can, I recently purchased 16GB microSD card from ebay.in for 1199/- Rs.
Hi,
I'm about to buy any one of the smart phones among Samsung Galaxy Ace or LG Optimus One..Ace is no doubt having all features within the range but i've one concern regarding RAM.In Optimus one it's 512MB whereas here it is 256MB though the processor speed is 800MHZ in ACE which is better than 600MHZ of Optimus One.
So can anyone suggest me which one to choose among these and why??If you can, then please give some comparison in RAM including other features so that I can be choose the better one...
Thanks..
Ranjan
Hi Tushar,
I am planning to buy this mobile. Can u install most of the apps on SD card cause internal memory is too low. Some games like Asphalt 5 can be of 50mb. Have u tried any HD games like Asphalt 5? Are u facing shortage of internal memory yet?
@Anonymous: From my experience I can only tell you that LED flash is very very useful when taking snaps in dark & low light areas. I've also seen that it can be used as LED light in case of emergency. I'll recommend ACE due to LED however i9003 has better RAM, bigger screen. Choice is up to you :) -- okay i made an account here so you dont have to call me Anonymous :P btw okies ill just buy the samsung ace then.. as long i can play some youtube video, do foursquare, facebook, mail and play games atleast an hour everyday..
Thanks Tushar.
Thanks.
Now ill look for a class 4 sd card.
But you told me to buy a 16gb instead of 8gb,i don't have any problem in buying a 16 gb one.But just curious to know why you told me to buy 16 gb one?
Hi Tushar,
I am Kshitij again.I want to ask you that how to change our notification ringtone in Ace of our saved ringtone in sd card.Because in Settings >Sound >Notification rintone, it only shows the default types ringtone and not the sd card saved ringtone. This problem is not about the call ringtone plese give me solution for this question.PLEASE REPLY....Thanks :)
Hey TusharG.
Thank you so much for such a insight.
Yes i also have decided to go for Ace after reading your blog.
Would you advice me to wait for 2.3 Gingerbread enables company make of Ace or should i go with existing 2.2 froyo.
Thanking you in Advance
Sagar
Have a doubt.. Should i buy LG optimus one then overclock it to 800 and then use it which will be nearly fast as ACE or to go with ACE. Since the former will have more RAM (512)... Waiting for your suggestion
to check on clock speed if i install delta rom void on lg optimus one and make it block to 800 will it be having the same performance of ace?
Can you clarify this point since then optimus one has more RAM than ace which'll serve better
Hi Tushar,
Wonderful blog..!!! It really helped me and m sure it must have helped other ppl too.. I jus bought a galaxy ace last week and i'm loving it every moment. I've installed an app called " battery left widget" which shows the exact battery charge, how many hours and mins are left etc. also, I installed a luncherPro from android market which replaced my samsung home page and its really cool.. It saves the battery life too. It is optimized to use less resources and run better. :)
Can u tell me which online site will be best for buying this phone...
1. flipkart
2. ebay
3. letsbuy
4. adexmart
I think adexmart is giving it for cheapest(Rs 14490).Or should I get it from a retailer?
@ashutoshvb
You will get better deals through retailers.
I purchased this phone for Rs. 14,300/- on 10th Apr.
I got it for 13940/- from eBay :)
@Sminzz
eBay is not a store, it's like a City, it will be great if you share URL of that store.
@All- Join Digit's facebook page to interact 40,000 geeks-
http://facebook.com/thinkdigit
@Ranjan: I've already commented on LG Optimus vs Galaxy ACE in above comments. Please check the same. The phones are not comparable beyond a point. As far as personal opinion is concerned, I didnot like the feel of LG Optimus phone, it gives bit of cheap feel in hand. Ofcourse that's my personal opinion and people can differ.
@Rishikesh: I've already answered on apps installation and SD card, please check the above comments section.
@Sahib: The reason for suggesting 16GB card instead of 8GB is due to only one reason. The price difference is not much and you get double storage to store songs/movies/photos and for apps. Last time I checked 8GB card was for around 800/- and 16GB I bought for around 1200/- Ofcourse if budget is your constrain then go for 8GB.
@Kshitij: You can use tools like ringtone make and create a ringtone/notification sounds from mp3 files. Store them inside a folder on SD card at /sdcard/media/audio/notifications
Now open a SMS app from main screen click on options-> settings->scroll down->Select ringtone-> (now select the notification ringtone) You want to assign. For phone ringtone store files inside /sdcard/media/audio/ringtone folder and assign it from settings->Sound->Phone ringtone
@Sagar: You can buy a Froyo based ACE now, their is no harm as Android 2.2 is equally good as 2.3 and it is expected that Samsung will soon release a update of 2.3 via Kies soon. If you are not in hurry then you can wait and may get a phone with Gingerbread (2.3) OS or may even get a better phone in same price range!
@anatha: Sorry unfortunately I have not tried the option you have suggest so it will be very difficult for me to comment. Over clocking may or may not work well. If you are very concerned about RAM/ROM size then you can wait for "HTC wildfire S" which has 512 RAM/ROM and equally matching features of ACE expect (No office editor suite, 3.2" display screen instead of 3.5", 600MHz processor instead of 800 MHz and no SWYPE keyboard)
@Sminzz: I'm glad that my blog helped you in buying ACE also thanks for sharing the new apps, I'd love to try out luncherPro.
@ashutoshvb: It's very difficult to answer which store is best as personal experiences differs from each one. However I can share one thing for sure that my ebay experience has been excellent and I'm very happy with the same. However I also heard that flipkart is also doing a very good job. About rest of the sites I've never heard anyone buying items from that so people may be able to share their experiences.
I hope this will end all the RAM related doubts ppl have :)
found a nice video

Need some help on firmware upgradation..!!!!!!
I was trying to upgrade the firmware version from
PDA:KA7/PHONE:KA7/CSC:KA7(INU) TO
PDA:KC1/PHONE:KC1/CSC:KC1(INU).
But during the Up-gradation i am getting an error message saying that "insufficient disk's free space(Requires at least 3000 MB)".
Can you please help me resolving this issue...??????
Hey tushar
this is manish..
I need ur help...
The sound quality using inbuilt music player is too bad(no bass even wid equalizer...or better philips earphones) so i downloaded power amp player frm android market(trial)...n to my surprise..sound on even default earphones was awsome....so there is no hardware lack just some softwre thing.....so cn u or anybody tell me how to improve sound quality of inbuilt player....shud i go for upgrade or shud buy d app???
Hi Thushar, nice review and thanks. I heard from the shop guy that the phone heats up while using, is it true? Like you said, phone has to be used like a phone and not like a computer to get a good battery backup.
Forgot ask this in the previous post, does the phone hang and/or restart frequently?
One question again. does anyone maybe know how to change dock and icons on ACE. i purchased Custom launcher icons but i can't find out how to change anything..
so i need a little help!
Thanks Nejc
Hi Thushar, im going to buy the phone this coming sunday.. i was just wondering what is the initial charging of this phone.. should i charge it right away or should i use the phone and wait for it to become 10% before charging it..
@cole,
For first charging, you must drain full battery, let the phone switch off. Then charge phone for 8 to 10 hours in switched off mode. This will improve battery backup.
And once or twice a month you should do this.
hi, Tushar Nice Review for user.
samsung phone only for internet surfing and mail. with good Speed 800MHz ? can you suggest .
@Saumya: Most likely your hard disk space is full, there isn't enough space for firmware to download.
@manish: Since you have already discovered the glitch, I'll suggest you download/buy a good player rather then relying on the default player.
@Anand A H: Phone has 800 MHz CPU and normal temperature of battery observed is around 35 degrees when charged can go upto 40 degrees. The same goes for most of the android phones. Although I have not observed any heating issues.
As far rebooting/freezing is concerned, if you are a heavy wifi user then freezing issue is common on most of the android phones and ACE is no exception to that. However if you are using gprs then rebooting/freezing are rare cases. I have reboot my phone after weeks of usage if I'm on gprs that to if I wish to.... However when people use phone like a laptop it's not immune to reboots/freezes.
@Carmelo: if you have purchased custom launcher typically when you reboot the phone at the start up it should ask you for the choice between Samsung touchwiz or your custom launcher.
@cole: Usually new phones comes with 50% charged battery. Typically if you are planning to store battery for longer period without using it, it is advised to store it with 50% charge. You can start using your phone and let it discharge it fully and then charge it all the way up to 100% ( do not rely on default battery icon, download some battery charge indicator app immediately )
@Ganesh Ganu: your question is bit unclear. However just for browsing and email this phone if more than enough.
Ya but i wanna know is there any method to improve sound quality of inbuilt player...like after rooting or some codes...like it was possible in older samsung models by simply putting some codes..
@Sourabha full drain like 0% or 10%?
@TusharG is this not true? #DO NOT fully discharge a lithium-ion battery! Unlike Ni-Cd batteries, lithium-ion batteries' life is shortened every time you fully discharge them. Instead, charge them when the battery meter shows one bar left. Lithium-ion batteries, like most rechargeable batteries, have a set number of charges in them.[2]
this is the link
http://www.wikihow.com/Make-Your-Cell-Phone-Battery-Last-Longer
@cole
Full drain means zero%.
But make sure to charge immediately after full drain, otherwise you will lose your battery.
@Sourabha sorry i got confused with this hehe.. thanks :)
1. Always charge 100% and discharge fully all the way upto 10% - if you are not sure how much battery is left use some decent battery monitoring tool like "Smart Battery Monitor" Do not rely on default battery indicator as it does not give exact value
Hi Tushar,
Was waiting for LG optimus black to launch... It is priced in the same price as Samsung Galaxy Ace...Can you tell me if there is any major difference.. Caus i see LG OB good enough to beat SGA in terms of processor and RAM... Can u comment on this?
@ Anantha
I have used LG Optimus ME, it is better phone than a Samsung phone, a few shortcuts, "DEDICATED KEYS" to Recv and Disconnect calls are really helpful.
No doubt, Sansung is good, but now I think LG is giving better products.
@Anantha: LG Optimus Black is not in the same price range. It's specs are much higher and it will be in the price range of above 18K (Some sites have even quotes as high as 27K for the phone) and for the price it's a good daal. Let me know where you are getting this phone in ACE's (14K) price range.
Hi Tushar,
I think i didn't understand what exactly u said..
I guess u r talking abt the Free space in My laptop hard disk where it will installing the firmware upgrade and then to phone.Coz I don't thing my phone memory is 3000MB or more..
Plz correct me if I am wrong and plz provide me a solution for this..
This is regarding my old question
